Welcome to my Musical Journey

Hello! My name is Shayan Farhan, and I live in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and I currently attend high school at the Blake School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I have always had a strong passion for music, both through composing music, and through playing the piano and the violin. I especially am interested in classical and jazz piano, and orchestral music. I have won the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Piano Competition four times, in 2018, 2020, 2023, and 2024, have played the piano in various recitals, and have composed and arranged music for Jazz band, string quartet, and solo piano.

I have also always loved volunteering and helping my community, especially the elderly in care facilities, and have been a leader of AYLUS’s (The Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States) Twin Cities branch since 2022, where I am responsible for organizing and coordinating volunteer events aimed towards helping the elderly.

Thus, I decided to combine my two passions and perform music for the elderly, because of how it can strengthen their ties to their community, as it does to my own, and can help elderly with their mental health, especially with the loneliness and isolation many of them feel, and even the dementia many elderly people suffer from. I got the idea from my own grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimers and is in memory care in Duluth. She barely remembers who I am, and cannot carry out basic daily functions due to her memory loss, yet she still loves playing the piano, even having a piano in her room.
